Candy Cane LaneI am a tea lover so when I got a free sample of the holiday favorite Candy Cane Lane Tea courtesy of Influenster I was pretty excited to try it out!  The tea is made by the Celestial Seasonings brand which is well known for it intense flavors and wonderful tasting teas.

The sample pack came with two tea bags but only one tea bag is needed per cup brewed.  Once I made the tea with hot water, I tried the tea without sugar.  It has a sweet taste with a hint of mint that gets stronger as you drink it.  I also noticed hints of vanilla and cinnamon which was an interesting twist.  Also notable is that this is a green tea and is decaf as well.

Overall I think this tea is a very nice change of pace for the average tea drinker. The flavor is nice, subtle and sweet.  Pleasant enough to drink solo or with a special someone on a cold winter’s day.

No 7 AdvancedI was lucky enough to get a sachet sized sample of Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Advanced Serum.  Influenster sent it to me for free inside my Frosty VoxBox so that I could try it out and offer my honest opinion on how well it worked.

The package that was sent to me stated that, “This clinically proven serum is even more effective at reducing the appearance of fine lines for younger looking skin in just two weeks.”,  but the sachet sized sample I was sent is sort of small .  So instead of using it all over my face, I used it in just a few areas of my face that I thought needed the most help.

This serum has a very smooth texture and is easy to apply evenly to my skin.  Once it’s dry, it leaves a silky feel that is not greasy or oily.  It is intended to be used on the skin before applying moisturizer but I found that when I used this serum right after stepping out of the shower, no additional moisturizer was necessary for me.

After two weeks of using the serum on my face, I don’t really see a big difference.  My face looks the same. I can’t say that it “reduced the appearance of fine lines” or gave me younger looking skin.  My skin feels nice, but no better than it did before trying the serum.  With a price tag of almost $30, I think that I would just try to find something lower priced due to the minimal results I received.

Recently Influenster sent me a Jolly VoxBox with some Puffs To Go as one of the complimentary items to try out.  Since Ben has had a serious case of the sniffles this week, it was the perfect opportunity to see just how good these tissues are!

I threw them in my purse and they have come in handy many times over the past few days.  They are strong enough to keep up with even the runniest of noses!  The ones I got have lotion in them that makes them  gentle enough to keep your nose from getting rubbed raw from using so many tissues.  I love this!

Ben is Autistic and his most sensitive areas have always been his face and hair and so these tissues are much easier to use on his nose than regular plain tissues that are too rough for his face and sensitivity issues.  The “To Go” packs make these easy to take anywhere we go especially since the packages are small enough to easily fit into my purse.  It is definitely worth grabbing some of these To Go packs and keeping them in the car, different rooms of the house, in his backpack, etc.

I recently received a complimentary sample of Annie’s Macaroni & Cheese Microwavable Cups from Influenster in my Mama VoxBox that was sent to me.  I have never tried the Annie’s brand before so I was curious as to how it would compare to the regular brand of mac & cheese that I usually buy.

The sample that I received was the White Cheddar kind.  It was simple enough to prepare and once I mixed it all up, I wasn’t sure what it would taste like. It was really thick and creamy!  Even though I am not used to really thick cheese sauces like this one, it was very good!  My kiddos really enjoyed it too! Maybe next time I will add a little more water than it calls for.  All in all, a good mac and cheese that can hold it’s own against the competition :-)

I recently purchased a Lands End Kids backpack for Ben and thought I would just create a post for my Lands End Reviews.

I have four children.  My oldest is 23 years old.  This means that I have purchased a LOT of backpacks! For the most part, those purchases have just been buying a backpack for under $20, making sure that the child I was buying it for loved it and would actually use it for the school year.  This also meant buying a new backpack every year since these cheaper backpacks just didn’t last longer than one school year.

This year, Ben got a new backpack as usual.  He opted for a Star Wars one and he was thrilled with his choice.  Within the first three days (literally, three days), the zipper came off the track twice and the backpack started to fray in various places.  Good grief!

Then I remembered hearing from a friend that they got a Lands End backpack   and  it comes with a warranty!  Great!  I quickly went over to their site and realized that these backpacks were out of my price range (almost $50). Yikes!  But still, I loved the designs that they had to choose from and was also really swayed by the warranty they offered.  Being a big fan of “want lists”  and waiting to see if prices drop on expensive items, I signed up for their email list and just waited.

After two or three days I got an email from Lands End about a sale that they were having which included free shipping.  I went over to their site and sure enough, the backpack I wanted for Ben was now $25 and qualified for free shipping!

The Lands End Kids backpack arrived a few days later and I have been nothing short of thrilled with this purchase!  Great quality! Great sale price! Fast shipping!  It has a ton of neat features and is holding up great! Best of all, Ben loves it too!  This was my first purchase from Lands End but I am certain that it will not be my last!

Over the past few months I have gotten some really good deals over at Living Social. Just this past week I bought a certificate for $16 worth of seafood at a local restaurant and I only paid $3 for it! I like this site much better than Restaurants dot com. With Living Social you get what you paid for. There are no “must spend $35 to use coupon” type restrictions. I previously purchased a $20 certificate for Coldstone Creamery thru Living Social for $10 and it was enough for four of us to get the largest ice cream sundae they make and still have 2 cents credit! LOL! Try Living Social’s website. You just might like it!

Warning….. this may be a long post and possibly boring to anyone who is not interested in the items mentioned in the title of this post!  LOL!

When I moved in with Dane, he had a satellite provider on one tv in the living room.  Thats it.  Nothing else anywhere in the house.  So, he called them and asked about hooking up the bedrooms.  It would cost an extra $200 for installation ?!?!?!?!?!?! and also be about $50 extra per month ?!?!?!?!?!?!?! and that does not include internet because they don’t provide that ?!?!?!?!?!?!  So, I had to come up with an alternate solution.

The kiddos have a Wii in their room so they get the Netflix streaming thru that, because I subscribe to Netflix.  That provides viewing options for them.  That left only our bedroom to find something for.  Enter the Roku.

I had wanted a Roku for a long time and now was the time to purchase one.  I bought the mid-grade one for $80.  It was easy to set up and now we get Netflix streaming along with a few other “channels” in our bedroom. All we had to do was purchase the box.  No monthly fee from them (but I still pay for Netflix, which I was paying for anyhow).  By the way I LOVE the Roku!

Now that Netflix has announced their price increases, I am rethinking my strategy.  We currently have the “2 out at a time plus unlimited streaming” plan which runs about $16 per month.  Soon it will be about $20 per month.  Which isn’t bad but I felt the need to examine my options.

This is how I figured it out:  Netflix at $16 per month was $8 for streaming and $8 for 2 movies out at a time (which for us was 2 per week = 8 movies a month).  That makes the movies about $1 each.  That’s okay.  The same price as Redbox rentals.  But NOW it will be $20 per month, $8 for streaming and $12 is for the 8 movies I get in the mail each month which makes them $1.50 each.  Not okay.  Not the same price as Redbox.  Enter Blockbuster Online………

For $10 a month, I can have one movie dvd out at a time, mailed to me, BUT I can take that movie to the Blockbuster store and turn it in for another movie while I wait for my next movie to be mailed to me.  This means that I will probably be able to get 4 movies a week (2 by mail and 2 in the store) which equals about 16 movies a month for $10!  That sure beats the 8 movies for $12 that Netflix would get me!  Plus no long queue waits for new release movies at Netflix!  I can just pick them up when I trade in my Blockbuster dvd at the store!

So, I think what I will be doing is keeping Netflix streaming for $8 a month and going with Blockbuster Online for dvds.  Total $18 a month.  I save a couple of bucks and I get more movies to watch.

This summer we finally tried Gamefly as a rental service for games for the Wii.  The premise is great!  The problem we had was that just about every game had a wait time.  There were very few “available now” games and that was just frustrating for the kiddos.  When we went to cancel our account, we were offered a “free month” so I accepted that and we will have to see how that goes.  I will say here that we have rented Wii games from Redbox at $2 a night and that worked really well for us!  It is a great way to see if you like a game before actually buying it.  A lot cheaper too!

I think that sums it all up.  Oh, and I went with the local cable provider for internet service because I have to have internet service for ANY of this to work!  LOL!
